The Shakadang Trail in Hualien’s Taroko Gorge is a must-do for any nature lover. This easy, well-maintained trail follows the crystal-clear waters of the Shakadang River, with stunning views of marble cliffs and lush vegetation. The trail is mostly flat, making it accessible for all fitness levels, and it’s dotted with rest areas and viewing platforms. The water is an incredible shade of turquoise, and you can often see fish swimming in the pools. The trail is also home to the Truku indigenous tribe, and you’ll find small stalls selling their crafts. It’s a peaceful, beautiful walk that showcases the best of Taroko’s geology and culture. Go early to avoid the crowds.
