Sanxia’s Qingshui Zushi Temple in New Taipei City is a masterpiece of Taiwanese craftsmanship. Dedicated to the Divine Ancestor, a deity from Fujian, this temple is covered in intricate carvings, gold leaf, and colorful murals that tell stories from Chinese mythology. The level of detail is mind-blowing—every inch of the roof, pillars, and walls is decorated with dragons, phoenixes, and historical scenes. The temple is still an active place of worship, so you’ll see locals lighting incense and praying alongside visitors. The surrounding Sanxia Old Street is worth a stroll too, with its traditional shops and street food. It’s a bit of a trek from Taipei, but the temple alone is worth the trip.
