Scenic Area • Penghu
Penghu’s southernmost inhabited island is a tiny, windswept gem that feels a world away from the main island. Qimei is famous for two things: the stunning, basalt-columned Qimei Geopark (a miniature version of the Giant’s Causeway) and the heartbreaking legend of the “Twin Hearts of Qimei”—a pair of heart-shaped stone weirs that appear at low tide. The island is small enough to explore by scooter or bicycle in a few hours. You’ll find sleepy fishing villages, a few old temples, and a quiet, unhurried pace of life. The ferry from Magong takes about an hour, and the journey itself is part of the adventure. Bring sunscreen and water, and be prepared for strong winds. This is a place for solitude, stunning seascapes, and a deep sense of isolation.
